Pesquisadores da Universidade de Reading, no Reino Unido, criaram uma forma fascinante e inusitada de ciborgue: um conjunto de neurônios (células nervosas) que controla um robozinho em laboratório. A colônia neuronal, cultivada numa placa de vidro, está colocada sobre um conjunto de multieletrodos (MEA, na sigla inglesa), que captura os sinais elétricos que chegam dessas células. Sempre que o robô se aproxima de um objeto, manda sinais de volta para os neurônios. Dessa maneira, os cientistas britânicos esperam que a rede neurológica "aprenda" a se desviar de objetos e "memorize" caminhos. A idéia é usar o sistema para estudar o funcionamento do cérebro.
