Em Portugal estima-se que existam cerca de 800 mil pessoas que sofrem de alguma doença rara, tendo sido já identificadas sete mil patologias deste género em todo o mundo.
A IV Conferência Europeia sobre Doenças Raras que decorre esta terça-feira de Lisboa, servirá de palco para a apresentação de um plano de acção nacional para travar e perceber um pouco mais sobre estas doenças.Ainda assim, os especialistas deverão divulgar algumas das recomendações da Comissão Europeia, no sentido em que, actualmente, ainda não existe um estudo que prove a incidência desta doença.
De acordo com o Jornal de Notícias, o referido Plano de Acção já foi aprovado pela Direcção-Geral da Saúde e aguarda agora o aval do ministro da Saúde, Correia de Campos.
A medida defende a existência de uma cooperação entre as estruturas europeias que tenha em vista a investigação de doenças raras com a criação de «centros de referência», que podem ou não estar instaladas em unidades hospitalares.
